how to make interviews less uncomfortable.
Some of us have always disliked interviews, not because we’re underqualified, but because we just don’t like talking about ourselves (hi, yes, me too).
We feel weird drawing too much attention to our work, even though we know we’re doing a great job (thanks, imposter syndrome).
And because we assume everyone else must be naturally gifted at interviewing, we start to worry we’ll need to hype things up or stretch the truth just to keep up.
But after interviewing thousands of people, I can reassure you: you really don’t. Plus, most people struggle in interviews, so no need to feel like the odd one out.
There’s a little trick to make it feel less cringey, and it also happens to be what works best: focus on your impact.
Instead of listing all your tasks and responsibilities, share what you care about and how your work makes a difference.
Shift the spotlight to the projects you led, the people you supported, and the company goals you helped achieve.
This works everywhere: in interviews, on your CV, in networking chats.
It’s still your work. But it’s no longer just about you, it’s about the people and projects you’re involved with.
And yes, it might still feel hard. But it’s also something worth sharing.
