negotiations and AI.

According to a recent study, when women prompt ChatGPT for salary suggestions, they get recommended lower numbers than men with the same qualifications.

Not sure anyone’s surprised.

AI learns everything from us, and our awesomely flawed systems.

Still, based on the outcome of the study, I wouldn’t recommend ditching ChatGPT altogether when prepping for a negotiation.

When I work with clients, I suggest tweaking the prompt to include different population groups and scenarios.

It’s one piece of data you can add to your notes, right next to the info you might find on salary platforms and industry reports.

But we shouldn’t stop there. Talking to people is the most important prep you can do.

If you can, try to find peers from different backgrounds who feel comfortable sharing their salaries and full compensation packages with you.

Or even better, join a community where money chats are on the agenda (or start one, if you’ve got the resources!).

Back when I lived in Zurich, I was part of a women’s group that met twice a year, just to talk about promotions, raises, and the numbers behind them.

Working with a coach who can help you communicate your worth and back it up in a negotiation can also be incredibly helpful, just make sure it’s someone with real corporate experience (and not someone who’s basing everything on TikTok trends).

And of course, we need companies to step up too.

With salary transparency policies, consistent review structures, and a genuine commitment to pay fairly. Sounds dreamy, I know, but there’s actually some progress in that direction.

So yes, use the tools, and prompt wisely. But also build a support system made of humans.

Most of us are more than happy to help.
