what do you need to do your best work?

A few of my clients have recently started new jobs (whoop whoop!), and now we’ve shifted our work to all things prep—connecting with colleagues, decoding expectations, and figuring out what feels right in a new environment.

Unsurprisingly, we landed on boundaries.

Because while you can’t fully control first impressions or job descriptions, you can check in with yourself and reflect on what you need to feel safe and valued.

Boundaries aren’t just about saying no to things.

They help you do your best work, show up as your most authentic self, and avoid burnout before the onboarding process is even over.

Wherever you are in your job, whether you joined yesterday or two years ago, these questions might be worth spending some time on:

  • Which strengths and values do I want to tap into daily?

  • When am I most productive, and how can I balance deep focus with collaboration?

  • How do I like to receive feedback? And what makes me feel appreciated?

  • What tends to throw me off at work, and how can I communicate that to my team?

  • What kind of work environment helps me feel at ease and in flow?

  • How do I set expectations for myself that are challenging but not draining?

We often think of boundaries as a set of rules for others, but we’re usually the first ones to ignore them.

Checking in with ourselves, honoring what we actually need, and setting ourselves up to do great work should be high on the priority list.
